Michael F Miller ASEA - Artist
Michael Miller has always drawn and painted from a young age and after leaving school he studied art at The Harris College, Preston and then at Manchester College of Art.
Micahel left Manchester to go into the Royal Air Force and during his three years in Germany enjoyed drawing a weekly comic strip for the base. After leaving the Air Force Mike worked as an interior design consultant for a large multinational company designing interiors for hotels, churches, casinos and large private homes. During this period he received a number of prestigious portrait commissions which encouraged him to continue painting whilst at the same time having to work for a living.
Michael has mainly painted for exhibition and his preferred medium is oil although he also works with water colour, pastel and enjoys fine pen drawings. He initially started painting portraits which he thoroughly enjoys but over the years has expanded into paintings of wildlife, land and seascapes and over the last four years, horses. He loves the strength and power of the Shire horses and recently has been painting the magnificent horses of the Lancashire Mounted Police.
Michael has been member of the Wildlife Art Society and is an Associate Member of the Society of Equestrian Artists (SEA) and a founder member and Trustee of the Association of Animal Artists. Micahel has exhibited and sold paintings at Christies, The Westminster Gallery and The Mall Galleries in London. Over the last 14 years he has exhibited and sold work at The Annual National Exhibition of Wildlife Art (NEWA). Paintings have also been exhibited in London at both exhibitions of the Daily Mail "Not the Turner Prize" in 2003 and 2004.
Over the years Mike has won many awards and commendations for his work and in 2007 won the "Founders Award Painting" (Best in Show) at the American Academy of Equine Art Open Exhibition in Lexington, USA. Paintings are held in private collections in the UK and overseas.
